Last night we celebrated with the elementary students and parents as we enjoyed our first in-person concert in several years! I actually sat with tears in my eyes when I saw the overflow of excited families filling every seat and even standing out in the stairwell. Mr. Swanson, our new elementary music teacher, had worked with the children to prepare an evening of praise to God. First, the little ones sang songs about God as a light to our path and how we are to shine that light for others to see.
Then, an amazing group of bucket drummers under the direction of Mrs. Swanson led us into the second part of the concert. The older elementary children sang in four different languages, emphasizing God’s love to people all over the world. They started with one of my favorite songs “I Love to Tell the Story.” A few of the words are as follows:
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God’s own holy Word.
I love to tell the story,
It will be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love.
Singing is a great way to hide God’s word in our hearts, for His words will come back to us during times of need. Psalm 119 says, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord!” It is my hope and prayer that these young ones will grow to love God will all their hearts, and that the words that they memorize today will come to mind just when they need to hear them again.
A huge thank you to all who helped with last night’s program. I am so excited that you could join us again in person to celebrate with us. I encourage you to come to the secondary concert this Sunday at the Vienna Community Church in the first district at 2:00 PM. I can hear the choir practicing right now, and they sound awesome! You will not be disappointed.
Welcome back, everyone! We are so glad to see you back on campus so that we can be together as a true community!
Because of His Faithfulness,
Dr. Sharon Brobst, Director
