How can students apply for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme?
The IB Diploma Programme application process consists of a formal application, essay questions, a consultation meeting, and a formal offer of acceptance. Applicants must be fluent in English including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. ICSV students can apply for the IB Programme in the second half of Grade 10.
New Grade 11 applicants must complete the General Application Process and be accepted for enrollment at ICSV before applying to the IB Diploma Programme at ICSV. Preference is given to current ICSV students; external students will be considered for the IB as long as places are available.
Can students transfer into the IB program if they have completed part of the program elsewhere?
Yes. Students can transfer into the IB program at ICSV if they have completed part of the program at another school. However, acceptance into the program and credit transfer will depend on a thorough review of the courses they have already completed and the alignment with the IB courses offered at ICSV. Since the IB Diploma Programme is a two-year course, students may need to adjust their course selection and drop any IB classes not offered at ICSV.
If transferring into the IB program is not feasible, students can also consider enrolling in the American curriculum track. This would allow them to work towards earning the American High School Diploma or a combination of the American Diploma with IB courses, depending on their interests and academic goals. We recommend contacting the Admissions Office at admissions@icsv.at to discuss the specific details and requirements for the transfer process.
What are the average IB scores of ICSV?

- N = Needs Improvement
- U = Unsatisfactory
Students in Grades 3 to 12 are graded using a four-point letter system from A to F. Grades are based on various factors, including tests, quizzes, participation, homework, classwork, and projects. While grades are important, our teachers focus on individual student progress. For English language learners receiving English support (ELL), grades may be reported as Pass/Fail when appropriate.

For Elementary students, we offer After-School Clubs, typically from 15:45 to 16:45. This hands-on approach not only raises funds for important causes but also deepens students’ understanding of global issues.

In 2022, our school organized a special online program to assist Ukrainian refugee students in continuing their education, including providing financial assistance.
These service initiatives reflect our core values of respect, integrity, and service. They help students build character, develop a sense of community, and strengthen relationships with their peers and teachers beyond the classroom. Through these experiences, students also cultivate a deep sense of purpose and become compassionate global citizens, prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.

Elementary school classrooms are equipped with iPads or Chromebooks for specific activities and research projects. Beginning in Elementary school, students attend a computer class designed to develop essential technology skills, including typing and ethical technology use.
In secondary school, many courses utilize digital resources, allowing students to engage with various online platforms for assignments and research. Our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy requires students in Grades 6-12 to bring their own devices to school, ensuring they can access the necessary tools for their studies.

To view more information regarding the required steps for admissions, please visit the Admissions Process section of our website.
Do students need to complete admissions testing when applying for admission?
Yes. ICSV welcomes students from many different school systems worldwide, so all prospective students complete age and grade-appropriate admissions testing to help us determine their academic needs and enrollment eligibility.
Non-native English-speaking students complete an in-person English language assessment at our school. This assessment helps the admissions committee evaluate the student’s English proficiency in writing, listening, speaking, and reading. If taking the English assessment in person is not possible, students can alternatively submit recognized international English language certificates, such as TOEFL, IELTS, or Cambridge English. Please note that no other English certificates are accepted when in-person testing cannot be completed, and the results must be less than one year old at the time of the application review.
Students with identified learning needs are required to provide a psycho-educational report and/or their most recent IEPs. Additional in-person testing at ICSV is required to ensure that we fully understand their learning needs and can determine the availability of appropriate support within our program.
When can I apply?
ICSV has a rolling Admissions process. Students can be admitted throughout the academic year if spaces are available. Grade 12 students must enroll by October 1st and will not be considered for admission after this date.
Applications can be submitted starting in September for students seeking August entry for the upcoming school year. Admissions testing can be scheduled as early as January, provided all required items of the admissions process have been submitted and received by the Admissions Office. We encourage all prospective families to apply as early as possible to ensure sufficient time to gather and submit all required items, including any official translations of school reports and teacher references.
When will I know if my child is accepted?
Once the admissions process and any required admissions testing are completed, the Admissions Committee will review the student’s application, supporting documents, and assessment results. Families will then be notified of the student’s acceptance, placement in the waiting pool, or denial of admission. If a grade level reaches capacity, only students who qualify for acceptance based on their application review by the Admissions Committee will be placed in the waiting pool.
If a student is accepted, a non-refundable registration fee and an online enrollment contract must be submitted within 5 business days to secure the student’s place at ICSV.
At what age can my child start at ICSV?
Students who turn 5 years old before September 30th are eligible to enroll in Primary (age 5), the first year of academic learning within the American curriculum.
In Primary, students build a strong foundation in essential subjects such as reading, math, social studies, and science, ensuring they are well-prepared for success in Grade 1 and beyond.
Our small class size provides each student with personalized attention, allowing our Primary students to transition smoothly and gain confidence in an English-speaking, internationally diverse environment.
Do students need to be fluent in English to study at ICSV?
We welcome students of varying English proficiency levels at our school. The school has an extensive Student Support Services department that provides English Language Learner (ELL) instruction to assist non-native English-speaking students in raising their academic proficiency in English. To ensure the best possible support for all our students, the capacity is limited in ELL classes.
For non-native English-speaking students, an English language assessment is administered as part of the admissions process. This evaluation allows our admissions committee to assess a student’s academic English proficiency and determine availability within our ELL Program. In middle and high school, applicants must demonstrate increasing levels of English proficiency, as determined through the English language assessment.
Students who receive English Language Learner (ELL) Support are not enrolled in German classes until they are exited from this program through achieving fluency.
Does the ICSV provide support for students with Special Educational Needs?
Yes, instructional support is available through our Learning Support Program for students with mild to moderate learning challenges. Enrollment in this program is determined by individual student needs, program capacity, and the availability of the required support.
Applicants with learning support needs must be assessed in person at ICSV to determine whether the school has adequate support to meet their academic needs.
Are there waiting lists?
Yes. Once we reach capacity in a grade level or within our Student Support Services, such as the English Language Learner (ELL) program or Learning Support (LS), students may be placed in our waiting pool. Only students who qualify for acceptance after completing the admissions process including admissions testing can be placed in the waiting pool.
We encourage students who may require Student Support Services to apply as early as possible, as spaces are limited. Parents of waitlisted students will be notified as soon as space becomes available.
Can students join the ICSV after the school year has started?
Yes. ICSV has a rolling admissions policy, meaning that applications are processed throughout the school year, and students can be accepted as long as vacancies are available. Prospective families who think that a move to Vienna or ICSV may be possible are encouraged to submit an application as early as possible.
