Arts

Art is a vital component of any student's learning process. We provide students with the opportunity to think abstractly, practice critical thinking and problem-solving, and express their ideas more openly and be more open-minded.

Through art, we interpret and convey God’s creation in a personal and meaningful way. The ICSV Visual and Performing Arts Department provides students with opportunities to discover, appreciate, and develop their artistic gifts and to glorify God.

Visual Arts

Middle School

The ICSV Middle School Art Program is a semester-long course for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Middle School students are required to take one semester of art class per school year. The program helps students cultivate their artistic talents and become good stewards of their God-given gifts.

This dynamic program helps students connect art to faith while developing fundamental skills. Students will explore and apply the elements and principles of design, sharpen their observational drawing abilities, and learn to critically analyze their own work and that of others. A positive, growth-oriented mindset is encouraged as students become familiar with various artists and their work.

High School

In high school, students can take "Foundations of Art and Sculpture" as an elective. Foundations of Art is an introductory course to the arts program. It provides a structure for the fundamentals of art, allowing students to learn core components, such as the elements of art and the principles of design, through class units that include drawing, painting, and printmaking. From this course, students can pursue art through the two-year IB Visual Arts program or take elective courses such as Sculpture.

In Sculpture class, students are challenged to create in 3-dimensional forms and are provided with the opportunity to work with various materials, including clay, wire, and cardboard.

In IB Visual Arts, students can explore lines of inquiry by developing and creating a cohesive body of work that culminates in an exhibition at the end of the two years.

Music

Our middle and high school music program offers a dynamic mix of choir, instrumental ensemble, and general music classes designed to deepen students’ musical skills and appreciation. Highlights include creative projects such as composing, film music analysis, and student-led performances, as well as field trips to professional concerts, operas, and cultural events in Vienna.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in our chapel worship band, developing leadership and teamwork through meaningful contributions to school worship services. Each year, both middle and high school students prepare for major performances at our Christmas and Spring Concerts, where they showcase their hard work and talent for the school community and families.

We approach music education with a student-centered, Christ-centered philosophy, believing that music is a powerful means of glorifying God through creativity. Our goal is to foster curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of community while helping each learner discover their unique musical voice and purpose.

Drama

The ICSV Drama Department allows students to use their dramatic abilities as a form of worship. Students in middle and high school participate in one major school production. Students can also serve behind the scenes, working on costumes, the set, the stage crew, and technical areas.

Every year, high school students have the opportunity to go on a theatre trip to London, where they see several productions, take backstage tours, and attend workshops with professional actors.

Digital Arts

Secondary Digital Arts is a class taught at the secondary level for juniors and seniors. The main project that the class works on is creating the ICSV yearbook for the school year. Some of the skills that students learn in this class include choosing complementary fonts, colors, and visual elements.  They learn how to create appealing layouts using the graphic design skills they learn. Another aspect of the class is learning photography and photo editing skills. Lastly, students learn real-life skills such as time management, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with other students in the class.
