I’m Ms. Samantha Gutheil, and I serve as the school counselor at ICSV. My previous counseling experience was at a highly culturally diverse public high school near Seattle, Washington in the United States, and I am thrilled to now be with you in Vienna.
A school counselor’s role is to support students both academically and personally during their high school years, as well as help students plan for life after high school.
School Counselors serve as advocates and supporters of their individual students when interacting with teachers, parents, and peers. They listen, provide guidance, and help students overcome barriers that might get in the way of their high school success and post-high school options.
Topics a student might seek a school counselor’s help with include:
- Academic challenges
- Getting involved at school
- Class scheduling
- Time management
- Post-high school planning
- Choosing a university or major
- Conflict with a peer or teacher
- Feeling stressed, sad, or anxious
- Concern for a friend or family member
…and more. When in doubt, go see Ms. Gutheil!
