Middle & High School
Student Support Services
ICSV has a Student Support Services Program for students whose first language is not English and for those who need additional assistance in order to be successful in the classroom.
English Language Learner (ELL) classes are offered at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students remain enrolled in these services until their level of academic English is strong enough for them to no longer need this additional support. Students who require ELL services should enroll as early as possible, as our ELL capacity is limited.
ICSV also offers instructional support to students with a variety of mild to moderate learning challenges. Enrollment in the Learning Support Program is based on individual student needs, program capacity, and availability of the required supports. Students with diagnosed learning challenges are provided with Individual Learning Support Plans, outlining their specific goals and accommodation needs.
Both of the options in our Student Support Services department come with an additional fee.
English Language Learners Program (ELL)
Middle School:
At the Middle School level, we are able to accept students with an intermediate level of English fluency.
- Extended ELL Support (ELL1): Students who have intermediate English language skills are placed in our Extended ELL Support program. They take ELL in place of a German class. These students receive additional support services in order for them to make sufficient progress in their academic English skills. Pass/Fail grades may be given for students at this level.
- General Support (ELL3) : Students who still require support with English are placed in our general ELL Support program. These students need ELL instruction in order to continue strengthening their academic proficiency in English. These students take an ELL class in place of a German class.
High School:
In High School, students must have advanced level English skills in order to be successful in our academic program.
General ELL Support (ELL3): Students who require support with English are placed in our Regular ELL Support program. These students need ELL instruction in order to strengthen their academic proficiency in English. The goal of this program is for students to become independent learners in a setting where English is the language of instruction. These students take an ELL class in place of a German class
Learning Support (LS)
Learning Support at the Middle and High School level is available at a varied, but limited basis. Support is provided by a trained learning specialist. Students are grouped according to their individual needs and grade levels.
Services range from a supported study hall with a specialist teacher to individual and small group pull-out support. The focus of individual and small group pull-out support is to provide re-teaching and remedial instruction in math, reading, and writing. Support may also include assistance within the classroom. At times, students may need to take a learning support class in place of English or a foreign language. There is an additional fee for these services.
